Guidelines | Format | Contacting us Submission guidelines Short Stories | Non-fiction | Poetry | Art General You must be 14 years of age or older to submit work to NewFoundSpecFic. If you are 13 years or younger, you may submit work with permission of a parent or guardian. You must have the right to submit this work for possible publication. You must be a resident of Newfoundland and Labrador. Notification of acceptance or rejection will not be given until after the submission closing date. Short Stories While all stories will be considered, there are a few guidelines that will make it more likely that your work will be given our full attention. Keep in mind that these are short stories. Try to keep your work under 5000 words. No foul language. Fake cursing (using made up words) is fine, but if you can’t say it on TV, please don’t submit a story to us using it. If you’re writing a serial (a series of short stories which follow each other), please submit the entire set of stories. Please ensure that each of the sections can stand alone as its own story. Non-fiction Sometimes the truth really is stranger than fiction. Well written articles about cutting edge or strange science may be considered for publication. Poetry Must have a speculative fiction theme, and lend itself to printed text. Art We aren’t actively seeking artists, but feel free to send us some samples of your work. Cover designs, and black and white work suitable for inside printing are closest to what we might be looking for. top Format Short stories, poetry and non-fiction For electronic text submissions we ask that all files be saved as RTF format. If your work requires specific formatting which cannot be accommodated by RTF format please contact us. If you submit work with a different extension without first contacting us it will be rejected automatically. If submitting by snail mail must be 12pt Times New Roman font and double spaced. Do not send originals. Regardless of method of submission, please ensure that you have your full name and all your contact information on the first page of your submission. As well please have the title of your work either in the header and footer of each page. Art If you are submitting art to us electronically please contact us prior to sending any large files. Please only send files in JPG or PNG format if possible. Please do not send originals as we will not be returning any work we receive.
